Home Cinema - Garage Conversion
|
The Client's requirements for this Garage Conversion were to take half of a double garage and create a comfortable, but narrow, 5 seater Cinema Room that whilst soundproofed, achieved the highest quality surround sound, given the room size and acoustic properties of the room. The budget was set at £15,000.
We determined, that given the viewing distance and the narrowness of the room, we would recommend an 82 inch TV, rather than a Projector. This actually resulted in significant cost savings for the Client. Based on the requirement for surface mount speakers - so that it didn't impair the excellent soundproofing - we used Morel's flagship SP-3 satellite speakers for the most important front left, right and centre speaker positions, with mid-range SP-2's for the two rears, as well as the two ceiling speakers, to create a fully immersive Dolby Atmos experience, which was fully compatible with and extracted the most from the latest, multi-channel sound tracks available on movies. We hid the two compact Morel SUB-8X subwoofers in the rear corners - a pair of subwoofers is strongly recommended in the industry - to give a more even and balanced distribution of the low end bass. At the very start of the Project, the room dimensions and wall properties were fed into an acoustic analysis package to address the natural reverberation and resonances within the room. These issues were suitably addressed at the installation phase with diffusion/absorption panels on the wall and ceiling and bass traps in the corners. Finally we installed an AV Rack for storage of all the equipment, fitted inside a custom made cupboard with suitable ventilation and a thermostatically controlled, ultra-silent fan. Using an Infra-red repeater, the equipment could still be controlled, either with the relevant standard remotes, or our own custom iPad/iPhone "iRemoteControl" App. Finally the TV was re-calibrated for the best pictures settings and the sound optimised using the Audyssey Laboratories Surround Sound Calibration system. Sources for the system are Disney+, Neflix, Amazon Prime, AppleTV+, Xbox, a Nintendo Switch and Spotify music streaming. |
