Elegant Large Family Home - with no compromise on Picture Quality

This large house in Northwood had a basic home automation system installed by the Builder which neither worked properly or handled HD quality signals.  Many builders unfortunately still think that co-ax cabling is 'good enough'.  However, nowadays Clients have tasted high definition TV and know the difference.  This Client was very aware and wanted the very best picture quality in a total of 8 rooms throughout the house.  The house was new, so our first task was to re-wire with minimal disruption to the paintwork and walls.

Client Brief

To preform a complete rewiring of the AudioVisual infrastructure to ensure HD quality signals could be distributed throughout the house.  Hat client wanted ultra high quality TVs that were ALSO elegant to look at.  In the Lounge they wanted to completely hide the TV behind a mirror.  in the Attic they specified a dedicated home cinema room using a 65 inch TV.  They required all the equipment 'clutter' to be located in one place but controllable from any room.  The equipment list included two AppleTVs for 'Movies on Demand', an Apple Mac Mini for accessing the Internet and e-mail and two Blu-ray DVDs so that the kids could watch one film while they were watching another.  They also subscribed to four Sky+ HD Receivers, so that there would be no fights between the family members on which programme they wanted to watch!

System Specification

Twin Racks were located in the Attic with Cat5e cabling infrastructure throughout the house, allowing complete flexibility of design and a high degree of future proofing.  Redundant cabling ensured that if any cables were damaged by the electricians there was spare capacity available.  Loewe TVs were selected for the key locations for aesthetics and picture quality.  RTI wireless RF remote controls were selected for reliability and ease of use.  Morel satellite speakers were selected for the Home Cinema Room, together with the Panasonic TH65VX100 and Yamaha Amplification.  For complete flexibility and expandability an 8x8 HDMI Matrix was installed at the heart of the system allowing any one of 8 inputs to be sent to any one of 8 rooms.
