Luxury Villa in Marbella We were very honoured to be asked to handle this project. The Client had spent over £350,000 for a complete smart home installation by another well known supplier, only to find that nothing worked properly - the system repeatedly locked up, the remote control worked intermittently and the user interface was so poor that it took more than 7 button presses to turn on the garden speakers - let alone adjust their volume!
After a one day site inspection, we identified several major problems. The rack where the equipment was located was overheating, the wireless communication infrastructure for the ten remote controls around the house was not correctly configured and the hard disc movie system was unstable and should not have been specified for this demanding installation in the first place!
Needless to say we remedied all the problems, replacing the Movie system with the super stable Kaleidescape system and rewriting the remote control so that the many overnight guests that visit this home, could instantly work out how to use the system, without any training.
The final touch was that we replaced the boring lounge surround system, with an elegant B&W XT solution combined specifically with a Velodyne Digital Drive subwoofer to deliver the awesome bass that this millionaire/hi-fi buff demanded!
The quality of the 'User Interface' is one of the key issues when it comes to selecting your Home Cinema or Smart Home Installer. The catchphrase "designed by Engineers for Engineers" is definitely NOT a good one when you require an easy to use, attractive interface designed for human beings rather than geeks!
